Gold Plating of silver jewelry

All our name necklaces are made of sterling silver. The gold jewelry has been gold plated. This means that our silver jewelry has been covered in a layer of real gold. Both sterling silver and goldplated sterling silver are very durable materials.

Gold plated jewelry is a good alternative to real gold jewelry. The downside however is that goldplated jewelry may lose its gold layer over time. How fast this occurs is dependent on a number of factors.

You can get more enjoyment out of your gold plated necklace by avoiding contact with moisture, body lotion, hairspray or perfume, which will affect the plating.

Humid weather might discolour your plated jewelry. However, this discolouration can be easily wiped off with a dry cloth. Due to wear and tear, eventually the gold layer will wear away, and the original sterling silver will reappear. At this point you can choose to simply enjoy your sterling silver necklace, or have it re-plated.
